The Air Max 1 "Big Bubble" marked the beginning of sneaker history and culture. This coveted heritage sneaker returns bringing with it the true story of the visible Nike Air unit. Using CT scanning to analyze one of perhaps only 400,000 pairs of "Big Bubble" released, Nike has replicated the Air unit and its associated design window from '86 to allow you to go back to the origins of sneaker history. In the first few months after launch, the Air Max 1 featured a much larger Air window than it currently has. It was reduced to work begun and with a launch date already established because Nike engineers discovered, despite themselves, that an exposed Air unit tended to break in cold temperatures. So, on the go and discreetly, they "reduced the height and width of the window" and began using a new Air unit to prevent the catastrophe of breakage. Today the original design returns with the "Big Bubble".
